Pointers need to be with people and need to be socialized as puppies. Some Pointers can be skittish or aloof. Pointers need plenty of exercise and activity to be happy and healthy. This breed is best for a home with lots of open land.

The English Pointer as it is currently known has only been around for about eighty years. Earlier Pointers became popular in England in the seventeenth century. Pointers enjoy lounging around on upholstered furniture.
