Animal ID: 2824Maddie (female)
Maddie is a 2 year old Black Lab/English Pointer mix. Maddie is a sweet girl that loves attention. She was never given the opportunity to experience life beyond the four walls of her previous home. Maddie was kept in a house with limited activity and mental stimulation. Before coming to her current foster home, Maddie was never taught the right and wrongs of the doggie world. Now she is learning how to behave well in a home and be part of a family. She is good with kids, but should be supervised as she is a large dog and is still learning respect of space. Maddie has a great deal of energy. She loves to be outside and explore the world around her. Maddie is the type of dog that gets excited just to wake up everyday and anticipates what new things she will encounter with you by her side. This beautiful girl also loves to swim! She is a fast learner and very 'treat' motivated, which is making her basic command training a breeze. Maddie would do best in a very active home with someone who is prepared to involve her in their day to day activities. Her forever home should be experienced in dog behavior or with someone who is willing to expand their knowledge in dog training. She has potential to do great things such as dock diving, frisbee, agility, or hunting! Maddie has a pleasing mentality. She is happy when you are happy. Maddie is at her best after a day of fun activities that keep her mind and body in shape. She is a goof ball, and will keep a smile on your face. Maddie truly deserves a second chance. Give her the opportunity to show you how special she is. Maddie is not aggressive to other dogs, but does play a bit rough so she would be best in a single dog home. She does have a high prey drive thus does not do well with cats or other uncaged small animals. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-14-00631Bodhi (male)
Bodhi is a one year old male dog. He is very smart and extremely active. He needs much more activity than I can provide him and would do best with active adults. He is not suited for cats or small children but is fine with my teens. He knows sit, come and go to bed and is learning lay down.

Animal ID: ccars-425Isabelle (female)
Isabelle does NOT like cats, so is not suitable for a home with cats inside or outside. Isabelle also has separation anxiety and will chew her way out of a pen if left by herself. She has been ok at the shelter and in foster where she is with other dogs, but when left by herself in adoptive homes, she has become destructive trying to escape confinement.

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-18-00073Rufus (male)
My name is Rufus. I'm believe to be a Pointer/Lab mix and roughly 5.5 to 6 years old. According to the shelter I was abused by my previous owners so my hearing is not quite there. My current owners have had me for 4.5 years, but in the past 6 months hours have changed so my owners are not home for long periods of time. I'm great with their 1 and 5 year old and never have snapped at anyone. I love to run and roam around in a big yard or go for walks which I can't do very often because my owners live in a condo and aren't home as much to give me long walks like they use to. My owners would like to find me a new home with a yard and someone who is around more to take care of me. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-03-00175Trace (female)
Trace is a little sweetheart who was pulled from a horrible kill shelter in TN. She has put on a little weight since these pics were taken, and she is dirty in the pic since she was running and playing. She is small, only about 35 lbs. SUPER friendly and good with the dogs we have had her in contact with. LOVES to play with the other dogs. House trained and uses the doggie door. UTD on meds. She is HW + and will be getting treatment and spayed before being adopted. In IL near St. Louis, MO

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-03-00155Jackson (male)
English Pointer. Pulled from a TN kill shelter Feb 2014. Very thin and HW +. Will be available after treatment. Also will be neutered before adopting out. Jackson must have been abused because he is VERY submissive. Approx 5 years old? Young teeth but grey muzzle. Vet said either a young boy who's had a rough life or an older guy with great teeth. Very shy but sweet. Loves to be petted. Not house trained as far as we know. Located IL IL near St. Louis, MO.

Rescue Me ID: 13-08-17-00277Sadie Mae (female)
This adorable girl is now almost a year old. She is in a new home doing wonderful. loves her new little brother a cocker spaniel plus her friend who they adopted at the same time, Bear. unfortunately the daughter walked in the house said 'you have a pit bull' turned around and left. She does have a thick head but we thought it was catahoula cur mix, either way she is a mix and we don't know what. She is wonderful and may be returned because she resembles a pit bull. She has a perfect lab personality! Friendly, playful, retrieves and loves water! Sisters are spotted showing the pointer mix. Would fetch a toy naturally several times in a row when she was younger, and loves water! Great duck hunting prospect, or beach bum companion. She looks like a lab with some 'bling.' She sat at a rural southern shelter for over a month and was looking like she and her sisters weren't going to make it out. I seen them and rescued all 3. Shes been vaccinated, wormed, started on HW preventative. Very smart puppy, although terrible picture! She will be spayed 11-6 and available after that. Vet name and number you use for a reference is required for adoption. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-07-17-00104Tide (male)
Are you an athletic person who loves a nice solid outgoing dog? Tide is a very handsome boy, weighs about 70 pounds, about 1 year old, heartworm negative and current on all shots and health care. He is a very solid, fun loving, energetic dog who can wear out any dog here playing, except a pit mix we had who is also higher energy. At the same time when crated he is perfectly well behaved, quiet and calm. He loves to sniff about and seems to have potential for a search and rescue dog or something to use his skills to advantage. Plus he is a very confident dog and loves to hop in the car, or go anywhere you want to go which would be perfect for a working dog. He is crate trained, never potties in the crate or kennel. He was rescued from a very high kill shelter in AL, where many dogs never make it out. I seen his face and just didnt want him cut short when hes still a pup with SO much potential! He will need exercise to be a good dog, either playing with another dog (med or large he loves to rough house with them!) or jogging, agility, tagging along a bike. This dog is athletic and needs an active family, no couch potatoe here (although after play time I am sure he would love couch time!!) He knows sit and he loves attention. His favorite thing other then playing is to flop over on his back so you can rub his belly! He wants to meet anyone who has visited and so many people have been very impressed with how handsome he is, but they were wanting a small dog. I havent worked with him much at all but he does learn fast! Please email for more photos he is solid built and acts very much like a lab! Contract and vet reference required to adopt. A friend has sponsored half of his adoption fee of $200. to help him find a great forever home! (Less)

Pointer Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The English Pointer is a proud, elegant hunting dog. Pointers are good with children and devoted to their families. Pointers need to be with people and need to be socialized as puppies. Some Pointers can be skittish or aloof. Pointers need plenty of exercise and activity to be happy and healthy. This breed is best for a home with lots of open land.
